We had a fun family outing this weekend. The weather was really nice on Sunday, so I took my motorcycle out for a spin in the morning. When I got home, we packed Miss Alison into the car and drove up to Yorktown and Gloucester for a little bit of geocaching. Three of the caches were virtuals in amongst the Revolutionary War and Civil War battlefields. One of them was at the house where the Articles of Capitulation were negotiated and signed in 1781. We ended up finding five caches total and then stopped for some yummy ice cream on the way home. And a fun day was had by all. :)
This past Saturday, Kurt and Alison and I were walking down to the beach to check on my geocache. When we got almost to the stairs down to the beach, Kurt said, "Look at the dolphins!" There were six or eight dolphins about 100 yards out in the water! I had just complained a few days before that I had never seen any dolphins at our beach, so it was especially neat to finally see some!
On September 9, 2008 at 12:31 AM after 20 hours of labor Miss Alison Elizabeth Flechtner made her grand entrance into the world via c-section. She weighed 7 pounds and was 18.5 inches long with blue eyes and a little bit of brown hair. Kurt and I might be slightly biased, but we think she is definitely the most beautiful baby ever! :)
August 30 was the annual Crab Pickin' Party at Kavanaugh's house here in our wonderful little neighborhood. They invite practically the entire neighborhood plus other assorted friends, family, etc. Gary, our neighbor across the street, showed me how to crack open and eat a crab! They're full of all kinds of nasty stuff before you get to the good parts. The good parts are very good once you get to them though! Kurt decided to bring Maggie over too and she was a big hit with everyone. She really enjoys visiting her public. It was hotter than heck, but it was a fun day and I can't wait until next year! We'll have Alison with us then! :)
Kurt and I went to see The Spencers: Theatre of Illusion this afternoon at the American Theatre in Hampton. It was a great show and we had a ton of fun. We're still trying to figure out how some of the illusions may have been accomplished. There was one illusion where he goes "through" a CMU wall. I can't imagine how they did that one.
I'm sure they'll really enjoy this theater after the renovation work that Kurt is working on at the office. :)
Here's a view from the deck outside our bedroom. The water is the Chesapeake Bay. This view makes it look like it's grassy down to the water, but if you look closely there's a boardwalk that goes down to the beach. It's a really nice beach too! Out of all the places I've lived, this is my favorite. I do wish we were closer to my parents sometimes, but that's why airplanes, telephones and the internet were invented. My neighbors are wonderful. They had a "welcome to the neighborhood" party for me when I moved here. They have all kinds of little get-togethers that we get invited to and they're always a ton of fun. This is going to be a great place for Alison to grow up. All of her "aunts and uncles" will be keeping an eye on her for sure! :)
Last week, Kurt asked me to go to lunch with him on Friday. He said I had to get there early because he had a meeting to go to at 1:00 PM. I showed up at about 11:30 AM and we went downstairs to walk to the Greek restaurant. He discovered he had left his wallet on his desk, so we went back inside. We walked into a party! :) That sneak was in on it too! It was a surprise baby shower! :) He works for and with such nice people. They got us a bunch of stuff off our baby registry and had lunch and cake for us. It was great! :)
Or the Chesapeake Bay anyway. A family in our neighborhood is moving away, so last Friday, one of our neighbors organized a cruise around the bay on this boat, Judith Ann. It was so much fun! This is the best neighborhood I've ever lived in and I just love it here!
Last night was a ton of fun. We had dinner at Primo Pizza in Virginia Beach and then went to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater for the Kenny Chesney concert. We had VIP parking which was nice what with my prenant self getting more whale-shaped by the minute. The VIP Club was great too. We found a bench and enjoyed making fun of all the nutty people with their nutty outfits. His opener was Leann Rimes and she was great. I love her voice. Kenny Chesney is a tiny little thing, so I'm glad they had big screens up so we could see him! :) We were very glad that he didn't do much of his island, blue chair music. We like the country stuff and that's mostly what he did. It was fun, fun, fun and I'm so glad Greg gave us the tickets!!! THANK YOU!!! :)
Kurt just called to ask what I was planning to do next Thursday night. A friend of his won VIP tickets to this concert but he will be out of town that day and not able to use them, so he offered them to us!!! Holy cow I've been wanting to see Kenny Chesney in concert for a long time, but I didn't think I would get to on this tour. Yay! Yay! Yay!
