I mentioned that I wanted to go to the Gymboree outlet in Williamsburg, so we trekked up there today. We also went to the Motherhood Maternity outlet and went shoe shopping too. After that, we went to The Trellis restaurant for their famous Death by Chocolate dessert. What else could a girl want? :)
And we're gunna get maaaaaarried!!! Kurt and I are off to Las Vegas this weekend to get hitched!!! Wheee!!!
Who do you want to be caught under the mistletoe with this holiday season?

In October of 2006, there was a get-together of widows from the young widow message board that I visited after Nick died. I drove out to Chandler, AZ to attend even though when I got up that morning I really didn't want to go. Of course, we ended up having a lot of fun and I made a bunch of new friends.
There was one particular guy there who I thought was quite handsome. His name was Kurt. I also mistakenly thought he was the boyfriend of one of the other widows plus he was from all the way out in Virginia, so I figured yay! another new friend and that's the end of it. A small group of us went geocaching and had a hilarious story to tell from that. Kurt and I chatted about work for a little while - I'm in construction and he's an architect - so we had that in common to talk about.
A few weeks after I got home, Kurt sent me an email because he had recommended my cross stitch shop to one of the widows on the board and he wanted to let me know he was hoping to send some business my way. I emailed back to thank him and we started emailing back and forth every once in a while.
November rolled around and I was whining about having to go to my company's Christmas party by myself yet again. He volunteered to fly out and go with me. Normally, I would have probably been more cautious, but I figured there were going to be about 100 burly construction guys there, so if he tried anything untoward, they would take care of him. :) We had a great time at the party!!
There was another widow get-together in Fort Lauderdale in January of 2007, so we both went to that and had a great time. Then I visited him in Virginia and he visited me in New Mexico and we've seen each other at least once a month since then. Thank goodness for video chatting on the computer too!
We went to Kurt's company's Christmas party in December of 2007 at the beautiful Wintergreen Resort in Virginia. We were getting ready to go over to where the party was and I was saying something. I turned around to look at Kurt and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was so surprised I started laughing! :) It was completely wonderful and romantic! We're beginning a brand new chapter in our lives and I'm so lucky to have him! I love you, Kurt!
I'm sounding like a broken record with all of our great weekends! Can't wait until we can be together full-time. Kurt got in to Albuquerque at about 4PM on Thursday. We went by the grocery store and then went back to the house and had cheese and crackers for dinner. After dinner we watched The Station Agent.
Friday, I had to work, so Kurt entertained himself with some geocaching and then we went to Osteria d'Assisi for lunch. It was excellent as usual. Then we went to Village Pizza in Corrales for dinner.
Saturday, we did some more geocaching and went to Chili's for lunch. After lunch, we headed up to Sandia Crest. I don't know why, but I'm always surprised at the temperature difference between the top and bottom of the mountain. It was about 20 degrees difference! We came back down the mountain on an a pretty nice, but unpaved road to "break in" my new 4x4 Jeep. It was a lot of fun. We didn't see much wildlife unlike last time I was up there. We did see one chipmunk run across the road. We had dinner in Corrales at the Indigo Crow. We were thought it was a place where we could split a cheeseburger, but it turned out to be a fancy-pants real restaurant. The food was excellent and of course, so was the company.
Sunday, Kurt's flight left at 9AM, so I dumped him off at the airport and then had a lazy day with the dogs.
I arrived in Norfolk at about 5PM. We headed to the house and Kurt made yummy nachos for dinner. We ate dinner and watched the Yankees play Cleveland. The game went 11 innings and the Yankees lost 1-2 dammit!
Saturday, we met up with Mike for a lovely morning of geocaching. We had lunch at Gator's Sports Bar. I had a yummy bacon cheeseburger. Saturday evening, Mike came over and we all watched Wild Hogs. It was a good movie and as a bonus, several of the major scenes were filmed here in New Mexico! We grilled hot dogs for dinner.
Sunday we took Kurt's kayak out into the bay and paddled around. I was afraid it would tip over at first, but it was much more stable than I thought it might be. We paddled almost all the way over to the Ocean View Fishing Pier. After that, we picked up sandwiches at Subway and headed out to the Casemate Museum at Fort Monroe. The museum was very nice and had a lot of interesting exhibits. That evening, we had dinner at Primo Pizza in Virginia Beach and then went to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater for the Brad Paisley concert. Kurt had purchased the tickets through the fan club, so they were waiting for us at the will-call window. We didn't know where the seats were until we picked up the tickets. They were located in Orchestra 2, Row D, seats 10 and 11. That sounded pretty good to me, but we didn't have a map so we weren't sure. We were so excited when we got to our seats. On the map to the left, the Orchestra 2 section was actually the blue section marked "1". There was a portion of the stage where the section marked "2" is, so that wasn't actually a seating area. There are a couple of pictures to the left that show the crowd behind us and the "crowd" in front of us. These were by far the best seats I've ever had! It was so cool to be able to see everything that was happening on stage without having to watch the big screen monitors! There were a bunch of local acts throughout the afternoon, but we didn't care about any of them. The main opening acts were Taylor Swift and Rodney Atkins. I was pretty lukewarm about both of them, but they were both great! I was very impressed! Brad Paisley was completely, totally awesome!!!! I've never been to a better concert!!! Kurt got major brownie points for this one! :D
Monday I had to go home. Boo hiss. :( We had another great weekend though!
I flew out to Virginia to visit Kurt this weekend and as usual, we had a ton of fun. I got there Thursday and we had dinner at the Ocean View Fishing Pier. I just love that place! It was beautiful weather, so we sat up on the top deck. I had mini crabcakes - yum yum yum!!
Friday, Kurt had to work for a little while, so I went downtown with him and walked around to see the sights. I walked through Waterside Marketplace and by the Battleship Wisconsin. I can't imagine being out at sea on a boat like that for months on end. I decided that I needed to get a charger for my cellphone, so on my way over to MacArthur Center Mall, I walked by the MacArthur Memorial where General Douglas MacArthur and his wife, Jean, are buried. At noon, I had a hair appointment with Amber at Sumatra Salon. She did a great job again! After I got done there, we grabbed sandwiches from WaWa and went to the north end of the oceanfront at Virginia Beach for a little sun. We saw a whole bunch of ghost crabs digging their little holes on the beach. After we left the beach, we went back to the house to change clothes before the concert and then grabbed hot dogs at WaWa. We head back to Virginia Beach to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre for the Rascal Flatts concert. Jason Aldean opened and he was better than I expected. He has a great voice. Rascal Flatts was wonderful! Now I really can't wait for the Brad Paisley concert in October. We were parked in a grassy field so when we were getting ready to leave, we thought we could just pull across the field and onto the road. Some girl down the row tried it before we did and got stuck in a deep ditch right in front of the parking row. Fortunately there were plenty of redneck boys with trucks to pull her out of there. Kurt was smart and drove around the end of the ditch and then out to the road, so we made it just fine.
Saturday we got up and had breakfast at Mick's Pancake House. Then we rode Boss Hog out to East Coast Appliance to meet up with some of Kurt's Harley buddies to go to NAS Oceana for the airshow. It's so fun riding with a group! The VIP parking passes let us ride across the tarmac to the parking area. That was really fun! We saw tons of stuff at the show - the Blue Angels performed, the new F-22 Fighter did a really great show and we saw all kinds of other airplanes like a P-51 Mustang and an F-86 Sabre. Wayne, a friend of Kurt's, got us VIP passes, so we had a tent to come back to when we were hot and all the free food, water, beer, soda and wine that we wanted. It was very nice! On the way home from the show, we stopped at AC Moore so that I could get some thread that I needed. It's a nice craft store, but I think I still like Hobby Lobby better. We went home to change clothes and then had dinner at Franco's Italian Restaurant. Spaghetti and meatballs - yum yum yum!!
I came home on Sunday and the pups were quite happy to see me. My pet sitter did a great job as usual!
I can't believe I'm back at work. Kurt and I had so much fun last week.
I arrived on Saturday and we went to a Norfolk Tides baseball game. They won - woohoo!!!
Sunday we sat on the beach in the morning. That afternoon we went on a motorcycle ride and ended up going to a fun street festival in Smithfield, VA (the ham capital of the world!!!). We didn't have any ham, but we did have some yummy ice cream. We had dinner at the Ocean View Fishing Pier.
Monday we went up to Williamsburg to go to Busch Gardens. I was there 20 years ago (yikes) in 1987 for a school trip the summer between 8th and 9th grades. We arrived early and were practically first in line for the new Griffon roller coaster. I'm glad I didn't see the whole thing before we went on it or I might have chickened out. It goes up a gigantic 205 foot hill and then goes straight out for a few feet and tips you over the edge so you can see the horror that awaits. It pauses for a couple of seconds to allow you to see straight down and then pitches you off the cliff. It was super scary! I don't think I've ever screamed so loud before! We also rode Alpengeist, Apollo's Chariot (twice), The Big Bad Wolf, Curse of DarKastle, Escape from Pompeii and Loch Ness Monster. Amusingly enough, the 3-D Curse of DarKastle was the one that made me feel really sick. I can't take spinning around in a circle and this one did that a few times. I thought the 3-D effects would be cheesy, but it really looked like things were going to hit you! Pretty neat! After Busch Gardens, we stopped by Haus Tirol/Stitching Well and I bought a cross stitch kit I've been wanting. I was glad to finally find it! After we got home, Kurt grilled steaks and we ate outside on the porch and watched the ocean. Very relaxing!
Tuesday we mostly hung out at the house and the beach close to Kurt's house. It was nice to have some time to do nothing. We went to Southside Harley-Davidson in Virginia Beach so that Kurt could get a replacement tail light bulb. It turned out to be the wrong bulb though. Oh well. In the afternoon, I had my hair cut at Sumatra Salon. Amber did a great job! I chickened out on getting my hair colored too though. Maybe next time! After that, we got sandwiches at WaWa and had a little picnic at the NAS Oceana Flame of Hope POW/MIA Memorial park which was nice. The weather was beautiful all week.
Wednesday we went on our 4th of July motorcycle ride with Mike and Heather. We had a blast and have the video to prove it!
Thursday we left early for Cape Hatteras. It was a lovely drive and the beach was gorgeous!! We found several pretty shells to bring home. We had dinner at the Diamond Shoals Restaurant. Scallops - yum!!
Friday we sat on the beach in the morning again and then visited the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. We went to the Bodie Island Lighthouse back in March, so it was fun to see another one. I chickened out on climbing to the top. We did find a neat souvenior that shows the exterior elevation and interior section of the Currituck, Bodie Island, Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke Lighthouses. On the way home, we ate lunch at Sam & Omie's Restaurant in Nags Head. I had a crabcake sandwich and it was very good - yum!! I wish I could have one now as a matter of fact. We also stopped at Wave Riding Vehicles so Kurt could show me all the pretty surfboards. I ended up getting a cute t-shirt too. Friday evening, we walked down to the TGOV (Thank Goodness It's Ocean View) beach party. There was live music and a few of Kurt's neighbors were in the crowd too. It's fun how many things are within walking distance there.
I did NOT want to come home on Saturday, but the dogs would starve if I didn't. My petsitter is on vacation this week, so I couldn't ask her to extend her time. Oh well. We had so much fun though and Kurt will be out here in August. Can't wait!!
