QotD: Oh, Look, Some Mistletoe...
Who do you want to be caught under the mistletoe with this holiday season?

In October of 2006, there was a get-together of widows from the young widow message board that I visited after Nick died. I drove out to Chandler, AZ to attend even though when I got up that morning I really didn't want to go. Of course, we ended up having a lot of fun and I made a bunch of new friends.
There was one particular guy there who I thought was quite handsome. His name was Kurt. I also mistakenly thought he was the boyfriend of one of the other widows plus he was from all the way out in Virginia, so I figured yay! another new friend and that's the end of it. A small group of us went geocaching and had a hilarious story to tell from that. Kurt and I chatted about work for a little while - I'm in construction and he's an architect - so we had that in common to talk about.
A few weeks after I got home, Kurt sent me an email because he had recommended my cross stitch shop to one of the widows on the board and he wanted to let me know he was hoping to send some business my way. I emailed back to thank him and we started emailing back and forth every once in a while.
November rolled around and I was whining about having to go to my company's Christmas party by myself yet again. He volunteered to fly out and go with me. Normally, I would have probably been more cautious, but I figured there were going to be about 100 burly construction guys there, so if he tried anything untoward, they would take care of him. :) We had a great time at the party!!
There was another widow get-together in Fort Lauderdale in January of 2007, so we both went to that and had a great time. Then I visited him in Virginia and he visited me in New Mexico and we've seen each other at least once a month since then. Thank goodness for video chatting on the computer too!
We went to Kurt's company's Christmas party in December of 2007 at the beautiful Wintergreen Resort in Virginia. We were getting ready to go over to where the party was and I was saying something. I turned around to look at Kurt and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was so surprised I started laughing! :) It was completely wonderful and romantic! We're beginning a brand new chapter in our lives and I'm so lucky to have him! I love you, Kurt!
